Abstract
Background: Cognitive function and insulin-like factor 1 (IGF-1) is known to decline with aging. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between IGF-1 and cognitive function.

Methods: This study population consisted of a sample of 185 healthy participants from a health promotion center, aged 60 or older. They were evaluated by IGF-1, short form of the Samsung Dementia Questionnaire (S-SDQ), Korean Dementia Screening Questionnaire (KDSQ), and Korean Mini Mental State Examination (K-MMSE).

Results: The subjects¡¯ mean age was 65.7 years and their mean IGF-1 level was 222.5 ng/ml. We found that IGF-1 was correlated with their body weight, hemoglobin and serum cholesterol, whereas IGF-1 wast not associated with cognitive function in the univariate analysis. Through multiple regression analysis, IGF-1 levels seemed to be associated with theri body weight. There was no association of IGF-1 levels to hemoglobin, serum cholesterol, and cogntive function.

Conclusion: In this study of healthy older men and women, IGF-1 level was associated with there body weight. We could not find any association between IGF-1 levels and cogntive function.
